Crescendo [book review]

Crescendo
Author: Becca Fitzpatrick

Synopsis: Nora should have known her life was far from perfect. Despite starting a relationship with her guardian angel, Patch (who, title aside, can be described as anything but angelic), and surviving an attempt on her life, things are not looking up. Patch is starting to pull away, and Nora can't figure out if it's for her best interest or if his interest has shifted to her arch-enemy Marcie Millar. Not to mention that Nora is haunted by images of her father and she becomes obsessed with finding out what really happened to him that night he left for Portland and never came home.

The farther Nora delves into the mystery of her father's death, the more she comes to question if her Nephilim blood line has something to do with it as well as why she seems to be in danger more than the average girl. Since Patch isn's answering her questions and seems to be standing in her way, she has to start finding the answers on her own. Relying too heavily on the fact that she has a guardian angel puts Nora again and again. But she can't really count on Patch, or is he hiding secrets darker than she can imagine? (via goodreads)

Rating: ★★★★★

For some reason I always have a story behind buying a book. This time I was at Books-A-Million looking around and I was getting ready to leave when I saw Crescendo. I blinked twice to make sure I wasn't just imagining (since it was days before it was suppose to be released.) Since it wasn't a figment of my imagination, I picked up the book and went straight to the cashier. The cashier tried to convince me to go to a football game. Uhmm... HELL to the no! I had better things to do. Can anyone guess what that was? Anywho Crescendo was beyond amazing! I loved everything about it, especially all the drama. I also didn't know it was possible to love Patch more; He's just perfect. Thank you Becca for another great book. Bring on Tempest, I'm ready for the thunderstorm (:

P.S. I seriously want the Hush, Hush series to be made into movies.

you know you love me

Crescendo... OH MY PATCH! Another work of genius by Becca Fitzpatrick. She is definately my new favorite author. I adore all the twists and turns and suspense and drama and spy work! AHH. And Patch, oh sweet, dark and sexy Patch. *sigh* Crescendo was a brilliant piece of work. I felt every emotion. I cried, laughed (especially at Vee's funny comments), I got angry, sad, happy. EVERYTHING. So this is something everyone in the world, well every female, should read. And then we can all fight over who gets Patch(: Now lets talk about the ending. What a cliffhanger! I am the type of person who always reads the ending when I get a book but with this one I've heard that there was a major cliffhanger so I tried really hard not to sneak a peek. Good thing I didn't! I reccommend you don't either. I can go on praising and praising and praising this book but you probably have better things to do (like go and read it!)

Daemon Hall [book review]

Daemon Hall
Author: Andrew Nance

Synopsis: Is winning a writing contest worth risking your life?
Nothing exciting ever happens in the town of Maplewood--that is until famous thriller writer Ian Tremblin holds a short-story writing contest with a prize that seems to be the opportunity of a lifetime: five finalists will get to spend an evening with Tremblin himself in the haunted mansion Daemon Hall, and the winner of the best short story will see publication.
Wade Reilly and the other finalists could never have imagined what they find lurking in the shadows of this demonic mansion. During a suspenseful night of tale-telling, strange incidents mix the realms of the real and the supernatural. What is Tremblin really up to, and can he be trusted? What about Daemon Hall--is it alive? And, more to the point, will any of the contestants make it out of this hall of horrors to tell their story? In the tradition of Stephen King, this chilling novel will have teen readers on edge in anticipation of what's to come with the next extinguished candle. (via Goodreads)

Rating: ★★★

Daemon Hall wasn't as scary as I expected. It was the first horror story I've read, so I guess I was expecting to be a little more frightened. It was creepy though, don't get me wrong. I really liked the fact that there were short stories within the book. I will say though that I did get scared/ freaked out while reading one of those stories. It was about spiders (ick!) and I'm aracne phobic. Plus it was in the middle of the night while I was reading so I was terrified of going to sleep because I didn't want to dream of those eight-legged-freaks! I didn't want to give it a two star rating because I did like the story and I would recommend it. I just expected to be a bit more scared. Oh and there is a sequel to this book and I do plan to read it soon!

Freefall Cover Remake

Freefall by Mindi Scott was released October 5th, 2010 and Valorie over at Truth Be Told is celebrating by hosting a Freefall Cover Remake Contest.

This is my first cover remake, so I'm a bit nervous. Especially since I haven't read the book. I've just read the synopsis, which is:

How do you come back from the point of no return?

Seth McCoy was the last person to see his best friend, Isaac, alive, and the first to find him dead. It was just another night, just another party, just another time where Isaac drank too much and passed out on the lawn. Only this time Isaac didn't wake up.

Convinced that his own actions led to his friend's death, Seth is torn between turning his life around...or losing himself completely.

Then he meets Rosetta: so beautiful and so different from everything and everyone he's ever known. But Rosetta has secrets of her own, and Seth will soon realize he isn't the only one who needs saving...
(via GoodReads)

I've come across a few reviews, all have been good. So now I want to read this book. The synopsis had me intrigued as well.

So on to the remake, but first here is the original cover:

now here's my remake *runs and hides due to shyness*

I hope you like it. Now go and enter your cover remakes! (Links above)

Cherry On Top Award!

Our second award. YAY! A titanic thank you to Once Upon A Twilight! We are very appreciative and super happy(:

The duties I must fulfill for recieving this award are:
  • Answer the question: "If I had the chance to go back and change one thing in my life, would I and what would it be?"
  • Choose up to 6 blogs and give them this award.
  • Thank the person who gave this award.

If I had the chance to go back and change one thing in my life, would I and what would it be?

My answer:
I don't want to lie and say no, because there is one thing in particular I would change. Don't get me wrong, I don't have any regrets. I love my princesses and I wouldn't trade them for the world. But if I hadn't forgiven that two-timing loser after the first time he two-timed me I'd be a whole different person. My plans would have gone accordingly. And I know I'm only saying this because I know that chance to go back doesn't exist. If it did I wouldn't change anything because my baby girls are my world. And at least these were God's plans for me and I'm happy where I am now(:

Doris's answer:
I wouldn't change anything because with each experience I learned something and it made me the person I am today.

And now on to the passing of the Cherry On Top Award! Congrats to you all. Your blogs are extremely lovely(:

Hush, Hush [book review]

Hush, Hush
Author: Becca Fitzpatrick

Synopsis: For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friends, Vee, pushes them at her...until Patch comes along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgement, but after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is far more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel. For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life. (via Goodreads)

Rating: ★★★★★

Wanna hear something funny? It was funny to me so please bare with me. I stumbled upon this book at Target and was dazed by the cover, it's pretty spectacular. So I asked on Twitter "if I should buy Hush, Hush" and a friend *cough* @TwilightsDance from OnceUponATwilight *cough* responds "Are you kidding, it's awsome." Well I bought the book and as soon as I was in the car I started reading and was hooked in a flash. The story takes so many twists and turns that I feel like i'm on a neverending rollercoaster, but in a good way. I didn't know who was evil or good. Hush, Hush kept me guessing from start to finish. BTW have I mentioned Patch is GREAT! (Patch is the main guy in the book) I personally wouldn't mind having someone like him pushing my buttons, getting under my skin and making me "weak in the knees" all at the same time. If you liked Personal Demons by Lisa Desrochers and Fallen by Lauren Kate you're going to LOVE Hush, Hush. What are you waiting for, stop reading this review (she said nicely) and go buy Hush, Hush. You won't regret it!
you know you love me,
xoxo- Doris

Hush, Hush is my new obsession. I am in love with it. It's my new favorite book! I don't know how I've lived a year without reading it. What is wrong with me?! LOL. And might I add that I am inlove with Patch. I'd take him over Edward Cullen any day(; Becca Fitzpatrick you are brilliant! Everything was perfect. It was fast paced, and the plot ohmygoodness. I kept craving more after each page. Like Doris said, there were many twists and turns, it was too good. So please do yourself a favor and go read it!
sealed with love,
